Front driveway re-built with SuDs permeable system.
This property in Burgess Hill was part of the project in the previous case study that had sandstone patio’s and garden building. It was decided during the back garden project that it would make sense to complete the works with a new driveway as it was in need of some attention. The original design was to have the whole driveway and car port build with paviours. However, the amount of fall (slope) needed to take the rainwater away wasn’t sufficient.
Due to this it was decided to build a SuDs (Sustainable drainage systems) driveway and keep the car port area to the traditional paviours finish. The SuDs system is constructed differently to traditional block paved driveways. It was built with 200mm of clean limestone 20mm aggregate that allows the water to drain a lot more efficiently than typically used type 1. Over the 20mm we place a 50mm deep layer of 5-6mm clean limestone. This was then finished with Brett Omega Flow 60 blocks in a natural colour. The block fit together to leave a small gap around the block where the 5-6mm clean limestone is used and the infill instead of kiln dried sand as used in block paving.
This SuDs system is not only strong and stable it looks very smart and is very easy to maintain and above all allows the water to drain through the entire surface of the driveway.
