This case study is the additional work completed from the previous case study.  During the back garden works it was decided that the side of the garden that ran along the line of the path would be much better with a retaining wall.

The structural engineer designed a wall with reinforcement and pillars that offered both strength and a design that blended well with the house, in fact you would think when looking at it the wall that it was build at the same time as the house. It was important for the customers to maintain the low maintenance aspect of the project. This was achieved with the use of grey composite fence panels because the  composite material that doesn’t rot and doesn’t need any treatment.

The main driveway was taken out and all of the old sleeper flower beds were replaced with a stunning contemporary resin driveway.

The side area level was bought down to be at the same level as the rest of the drive. A curved black brick wall was build along the line of the hedging plants and the same brick was used to edge around the perimeter of the whole driveway.

The driveway was build with a 200mm type 1 sub-base and 100mm concrete permeable base then finished with the resin. This type of construction allows the rain water to drain into the whole surface.

The Result

The finished result of this project speaks for itself.  The resin driveway finish is contemporary, stylish, hardwearing and very easy to maintain.

The retaining wall with composite panels work beautifully and give privacy without looking out of place. The project is a perfect example of what can be done to transform a old tiered driveway in to a stunning outdoor space.
