Contemporary Two-Level Garden Transformation in Hassocks
The owners of this new-build detached house in Hassocks were looking for a complete transformation of their garden. After finding Kennedy Landscapes online, they visited our unique garden display showground to explore different materials, landscaping ideas and design possibilities before progressing with our garden design process.
The clients wanted a modern, contemporary garden that would be easy to maintain, while making the most of the sloping site. Their previous garden had featured lots of curves, so some of the initial concepts incorporated sweeping curves and circular features, while others combined straighter lines with softer curved elements.
The final design adopted a more contemporary layout, using strong, clean lines with one distinctive curve incorporated into the resin-bound pathway. The sloping garden was divided into two levels, creating a generous lower patio area and a practical upper garden space.
For the main patio and steps, we used high-quality Italian porcelain paving in contrasting dark grey and light cream tones. The same porcelain was used to clad the retaining walls and raised planter walls, creating a seamless and streamlined appearance throughout the garden.
The upper level features a resin-bound pathway edged with dark granite setts, including a distinctive curved section that adds visual interest to the otherwise clean-lined design. The resin surface was installed over a fully permeable sub-base and concrete construction, providing effective drainage for rainfall.
