Total re-build of collapsed decking - Haywards Heath

This small courtyard garden in Haywards Heath had a Millboard decking installed that the current owners inherited when they bought the property.

As you can see from the before photos, the decking had collapsed in a couple of places making the space dangerous and unusable.

In 99% of cases the framing has been so badly made that it isn't possible to repair, only replace. This framing was no exception, as we started the take up the boards and expose the deck framing we discovered that the frame support posts had not been concreted into the ground. They had been placed directly onto the earth, meaning the damp raised from the ground up through the posts into the framing.  This is why the framing had collapsed, and it is an example to anyone who has decking installed cheaply by poor quality landscapers.

We stripped out the whole framing and re-build a solid timber framing with treated timber and painted with a dpm paint.

The main feature that gives composite decking a touch of class is the way it is finished. You will notice from the after photos the decking area has two separate adjacent sections with an edging around the two sections. This is called picture framing, and looks a thousand time better than just running the boards along the length and butting the boards together when they aren't long enough.

We also did the same with the step, the picture frame edging matched the perfectly with the main composite deck area.

To finish the project off we constructed a panel closed board fence along both sides to create a wonderful new composite decking area with privacy.

Design. Transform. Enjoy.

The Result

The after photos and video shows how nice composite decking can look when it is constructed correctly by skilled tradesman that pay attention to the details that make the difference in the finished result.
